Among the prizes which will be awarded by the department are a 1989 Dodge automobile, a registered Black Angus, two season tickets to the Redskins, home games, a suite of living room furniture, a fire chiefs decanter, and several locally-produced craft items, including a quilt and an afghan.
Wednesday night, Aug. 2 is Family Night. One $5 ticket will buy all rides, all night.
On Thursday evening the parade begins at 6:30, but the department suggests that spectators arrive early to get a good seat and pick up a box dinner, provided by the department’s Ladies Auxiliary.
According to Moe Walker, the department also plans to invite several members of the county’s Board of Supervisors to participate at the department’s dunking tank. “Did you ever feel like you wanted to throw your supervisor into a well? he asked. We have the next best thing.”
Washington plans evening out
In a celebration with a double purpose, the Town of Washington will observe the 240th anniversary of the town’s establishment on Aug. 19.
