On Sept. 15 and 16, the Kutiyattam Theatre Troupe from India will appear at the Town Hall in Washington under the sponsorship of The Golden Key. Kutiyattam is the oldest exciting form of classical theatre in the world. It dates from the 10th century and has been passed on in an unbroken tradition by families of artists, who are considered national treasures by the government of India. 'Mississippi Burning'
The movie Mississippi Burning will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 2, 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Based on the real-life triple murder of civil rights workers in the 1960’s, this is director Alan Parker’s filrft of lynching, burning and an FBI search for the three workers bodies ... an exhilerating film about the good guys going after the racist establishment of the deep South. Many of the realities of civil rights and the real South are fictionalized to convey the story’s important moral message. The movie stars Gene Hackman and Willem Defoe. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
EMT class in Amissville
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services Council will sponsor a class leading to state certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. The 110-hour class will begin on Sept. 12, and be held each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-10 at the Amissville fire hall. It will end with the state written and pratical tests on Jan. 16, 1990. Coppage reunion planned
The families of the late George and Florence Coppage will have their annual reunion on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Rappahannock Park, on Rt. 211, Washington. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. "Come and join us in love, fellowship and fun,” said a family spokesperson.
Annual fire school
The Rappahannock County Fire and Rescue Association will sponsor its annual Fire School at the Amissville VFD on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17. Classes will include Ventilation and Overhaul, Instructor I, Confined Space Rescue, Apparatus Maintenance, Public Fire Education (open to anyone, whether or not they belong to a fire department) and Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (EVOC).
