The Jayvee Panthers evened their record at 1-1 with a 19-17 win over the Wildcats earlier in the evening. Second-year coach Amy Wolf was beaming with pride over her young Lady Panthers’ performance.
“We lost our first game 38-12 to Luray. The girls were so scared they wouldn’t shoot the ball in the first half of that game. They’ve made remarkable improvement in the last couple of days,” she said.
Most of last year’s team returiied for Coach Wolf who lists experience as the JV Panthers’ biggest strength. Four of the junior Panthers participated in the summer basketball camp at RCHS; Laura Pendleton, Lisa Sisk, Emma Swatman, and Morgan Hay. “They have all made amazing leaps in their progress because of the camp, especially Emma who has developed a nice shot," said Wolf.
Coach Wolf expects a successful season because “the girls have more confidence, are enjoying the game, and have a much better attitude, which makes coaching them a lot of fun,” Wolf added, smiling broadly.
On Aug. 31, the Lady Panthers travel to Page county for their next game. Then on Sept. 5 they- return home to face the Central Falcons. Junior varsity contests start at 6 p.m.; varsity at 7 p.m.
