But missed opportunities and mental mistakes cost the Panthers in the final stretch and they lost 38-32.
“I’m extremely disappointed. They did not play up tp their capabilities, and until they do, they’re going to remain on the low end of the scoreboard,” said Leake after the game.
Last week, the RCHS Cats lost their season opener to the Luray Bulldogs, 35-24. In that game the Panthers were forced to play most of the fourth quarter without four of their starters due to foul trouble.
But despite the two losses. Coach Leake remains optimistic. “This could be one of Rappahannock’s better years on the court. Teamwork and rebounding are our biggest assets. The five girls on the court work well together and we should dominate most teams on the. boards this year.”
RCHS outrebounded Warren County 49-28, paced by Sherron Boddie’s game-high 17. “She earned her spot tonight,” Leake said of her hustling sophomore. Because of an injury to Edna Shanks, Boddie started her first game ever, in her first season of playing basketball. “I’m real pleased with the way Sherron played and will definitely get her more involved,” said Leake.
