• Focus on each task. Watch what you are doing and where you are going. Inattention is a factor in many accidents.

• Work without undue fatigue. Take work breaks to maintain alertness and avoid alcohol and other drugs. When tired, get relief or rest. If you are ill or taking medication, put off risky work, such as climbing ladders or operating machinery.

• Invest in personal protective equipment. Tractors need roll-over protective shielding. Farm buildings should have smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and ground fault circuit interrupters.
