school buses roll into action as Rappahannock County public schools open for the 1989-90 school year.
“Watch out for those kids,” Rappahannock Sheriff John Henry Woodward said. “Slow down and be prepared to meet those school buses.”
Rappahannock school buses begin their daily pick-up as early as 7 a.m.; motorists should also beware of drop-offs traveling between 3:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
As long as the school bus is in motion, drivers coming in both directions can pass it. When the yellow lights begin to blink, other drivers in both directions, unless on a double-lane divided highway, in the opposite direction, should prepare to stop completely and not pass the bus once the red lights have flashed, and the bus has stopped.
“No one wants to stop and everyone wants to get around the bus,” Rappahannock School Transportation Supervisor Allie Huff said, adding that he can understand it, but urges drivers to be patient. “Our
