• How can Virginians be encouraged to accept the planning demands required to manage growth?

The Virginia Growth Management Forum will occur just as the state political campaigns begin to heat up. The nominees for Governor have been invited to the conference to respond to the recommendations by participants. Members of the legislature and local governments will be watching its work with interest.

But policy making is not a spectator sport. The people of Virginia cannot afford to be on the sidelines now. There are many opportunities for direct participation.

Take an active interest in your local government’s comprehensive planning process. Become informed about amendments to local zoning and subdivision ordinances. Consider private efforts such as the dedication of conservation easements. Get more information about the Virginia Growth Management Forum. Talk with your state legislators about the work of the Virginia Commission on Population Growth and Development. It’s time to get involved.
