i The first debate between gubernatorial candidates J. Marshall ' Coleman and L. Douglas Wilder will be held next Monday, Oct. 9, beginning at 8 ; p.m. The hour-long debate will be televised ■ live from the studios of WXEX-TV, Channel 8 in Richmond. It will be broadcast ' nationally over the C-SPAN cable television network, and will also be carried ; locally by WJLA, Channel 7, the ABC .affiliate in Washington, D.C.

CSC Transit idle Oct 9

The transit service offered by the ■ Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Center will not run on Monday, . Oct. 9, Veterans Day. The system will resume normal operations on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

School Superintendent Dr. David Gangel announced this week that the county's schools will be open on Jan. 2, 1990, to make up the day lost last week when school was closed in anticipation of~ Hurricane Hugo. Dr. Gangel said that Jan. 2 is the first day on the calendar designated as a make-up day.

Sen. Robb’s rep to visit

Virginia Senator Charles S. Robb (D) announced that his Shenandoah Valley regional representative, C.R. Suddith Jr., will begin monthly visits to Rappahannock County to meet with residents to discuss problems or issues under the purvue of the federal government. Mr. Suddith will visit Washington on the fourth Thursday of each month, beginning Sept. 28. He will be available to speak with residents in the courtroom at the county courthouse from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
