4-H, America’s largest informal educational program for boys and girls, annually reaches 4.5 million young people.
4-H members primarily between the ages of nine and 19 live in every demographic area — on the farm, in the city and in between.
4-H members become involved in a wide variety or practical real-life activities ranging from agriculture to aerospace, from communications to veterinary science.
The 4-H mission is to help young people becom self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. The educational program helps boys and girls develop inquiring minds, learn practical skills, strengthen decision-making competency, improve communications and interpersonal relationships and ultimately to share their skills and experience in a leadership role.
4-H also is an adult education program involving more thann 600,000 volunteers. These volunteers not only contribute their time and talents but also receive training at the local, regional and national level to strengthen their skills and broaden their understanding of youth development.
4-H members and volunteers are comitted to community service. They become involved in work with local government, service to the elderly and handicapped, beautification of their community,
