Shenandoah National Park Rangers apprehended a Madison County man on Sept. 5 and charged him with attempting to remove a large quantity of ginseng plants from the park, a park spokesman announced.
Ralph Dyer, 62, of Madison, was charged with violating Federal regulations when he was confronted by Park Rangers in the Central District of the Park with more than 100 ginseng plant roots and a large number of ginseng seeds in his possession, the spokesman said. Mr. Dyer was also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance, he added.
