Volunteers not only give leadership to 4-H experiences for youth, they also keep the program relevant to local community needs and interest.
While most volunteers serve in teaching roles, an increasing number are assuming broadened roles in middle management, service on boards and committees, as coordinators of events and in helping broaden the funding base for 4-H.
The contributions of volunteers to 4-H is tremendous; however, 4-H does reciprocate. Volunteers receive the latest information, develop their own leadership skills and experience personal growth.
The 45 million 4-H alumni form an important and invaluable support base to 4-H and Extension. Recent surveys of 4-H alumni have resulted in a flood of comments crediting the 4-H experience with having a strong influence on successful careers, achieving personal goals, strengthening family and community commitment and enhancing the quality of life.
