The turning of the leaves in the Shenandoah Valley not only signals the coming of fall, but also the annual Festival of Leaves in Front Royal.

This year’s festival begins on Friday, Oct. 13 with a Heritage Ball at Bowling Green Country Club. Festivities continues throughout Saturday and Sunday, ending on Sunday evening with Wayside on Tour at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center.

A new event this year, the Heritage Ball, will start this year’s festival. This informal dinner dance will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour followed by a buffet dinner. The band Fine Print will play from 9 p.m. until midnight. Vacation prizes including a Christmas in Williamsburg, a Tides Inn Resort package, a Wintergreen Resort package, and several bed and breakfast packages will be given away as part of the evening’s festivities. , Saturday will start with a public reception in the lobby of the Farmers and Merchants Bank on East Main Street at 9 a.m. This is followed by the opening ceremony at the Courthouse across the street from the bank.
