Rappahannock News Staff Writer s The Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance from the zoning ordinance requirements for the location of Sally Nash’s house on Rt. 600 west of Sperryville. The board then voted to make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors to prevent such cases from arising in the future.
The error in locating the house occurred when builder Sam Clifton assumed that the house would have to be set back 50 feet from any property line. In fact, in conservation zones a 100-foot setback is required, and the line between agriculturally zoned and conservation zoned land runs right through the building. The building permit,- which Mr. Clifton obtained, states that 100-foot set backs are required, but Mr. Clifton did not read the building permit.
