Fire safety week
Next week, Oct. 8-14, is Fire Prevention Week. It comes at an appropriate time, as we face cold weather and another winter heating season.
It may sound like a womout record, but we urge residents to be careful with fire, in whatever its form. Whether it is a woodstove sending warmth through the home, or a kerosene heater warming a basement, such heat sources are responsible for scores of deaths and injuries each winter.
The Rappahannock Fire and Rescue Association, in an effort to raise the awareness of county residents to the dangers of fire, is sponsoring a Fire Prevention Day at RCHS on Saturday, Oct. 7. From 1-4 p.m. there will be equipment displays and demonstrations, fire safety information, and advice on how to make this winter fireproof.
There will also be refreshments and activities for the children as well. We urge county residents to attend this worthwhile, and potentially lifesaving, event.
