“Someone has to be there. A truck load of aluminum is worth a great deal of money,” Mrs. Stamersaid.
County residents can take three colors of glass containers, green, clear and amber or brown to be recycled. “Glass is 100 percent recyclable,” Mrs. Stamer said with encouragement.
The open shed also contains receptacles for all aluminum including pots, pans, lawn chairs, (stripped of all other materials), doors and foil.
Those living in the Woodville and Castleton areas can recycle their items at Culpeper’s landfill, located on U.S. 522, between Salem and Culpeper. Mrs. Stamer said recyclers should make the gate attendant aware of their intent before they attempt to enter.
Flint Hill and Huntly residents can use the recycling center located on the Front Royal airport road. Plastics can also be recycled at this site.
The Amiss ville Volunteer Fire Department houses facilities for newspaper recycled at this site.
“We need another location for recycling,” Mrs. Stamersaid, explaining that a more central location could encourage more participation.
“The participation we have now is incredible,” she said, explaining that when the program started 35 homes recycled itmes and within five months the number had jumped to more than 100 homes participating. “But, we want more converts,” she added.
Younger converts are her goal.
“This October our focus is on kids,” Mrs. Stamer said.
