This is one reason Ruby Green, manager of Mayhugb’s Grocery in Amissville, decided against tape rentals.
“You would have to have someone to handle them,” Ms. Green said of the tapes, explaining that they are small enough that theft would have to be a consideration. So besides more personnel to handle the tapes, they would need lock and key storage. “Space is a real concern too,” she added, saying the staff did not see a demand in the video market.
Mrs. Green’s opinions are shared by other shop keepers around the county. Amissville’s Graham Hackley agreed with her words, as did LaMerle Williams in Chester Gap and Cookie Childrey of Old Hollow Grocery on U.S. 211.
“We are just a little store,” Mrs. Williams said, adding that space is always a concern for small country storekeepers.
