To the editor:
The opening paragraph in Newbill Miller’s letter (printed in your Feb. 1, newspaper) about the “biggest issue in the Town’s history” and the “issues we should discuss and should have been dicussing” seems to me to suggest that, in Mr. Miller’s 0 opinion, Town residents have been distracted by his involvement with Council member William Wickens in the misguided and heavy-handed attempt to get me to resign as a member of Town Council.
Susan Parrish, the author of another letter in this week’s paper, telephoned me last week to.tell me she had written a letter and had given Mr. Wickens an opportunity to read it before she submitted it for publication. She called only to ask me to confirm what she had then been told in response by Mr. Wickens.
Mr. Wickens told Mrs. Parrish that she need not submit her letter for publication, because . I had since told him I agreed with him, that I had, in fact, “misunderstood” the purpose of his “friendly visit” to my home - as it was reported in the article about last month’s Council meeting and your editorial calling for Mr. Wicken’s resignation from Council.
I told Mr. Wickens no such thing! And, while I take no pleasure in being the source of any further “distractions” from the business of Town government, I want any others who have heard such a statement to know it is not true.
I did not misundertand the purpose or intent of that visit, nor did I
