RICHMOND — While few argue that something needs to be done, there is a lack of consensus among General Assembly members about how to resolve the problem of escalating real estate assessments and property taxes in high growth areas.
In Fauquier and other Northern Virginia counties, the problem of skyrocketing assessments is particularly prevalent, causing individual property taxes in some instances to go up as much as 500 percent.
