To the editor:

We are the members of the Town Council who voted at our December, 1989 meeting to approve the application for the subdivision of the former Stuart property.

In the context of a letter about the plans of The Inn to expand its facilities (printed in your newspaper of Feb. 1,) former Mayor Newbill Miller takes issue with what he believes to be the failure of Council to consider some 10 “points” before voting to approve this subdivision.

At the outset, we take exception to his suggestion that the possible, future use of a lot — in this or any subdivision application — is a matter that should be considered by the Council in deciding whether a subdivision application meets the terms of the subdivision ordinance. A proposed use of a lot, once of record, is the proper subject of another application, under another Town ordinance (zoning or historic district), and would be considered at another public hearing.

We take exception, as well, to Mr. Miller’s charge that Council failed to consider any of the'points he raised in his letter. We believe all relevant points were considered, and, if not, why didn’t Mr. Miller speak up at the public hearing on the application? He was present and said nothing.

We will respond to Mr. Miller’s itemization, not point by point, but to the subjects he raised.
