As the maple trees and dogwoods slowly begin to sport their vivid autumn hues, the town of Sperryville is anticipating its sixth annual Apple Harvest Festival this weekend.
Some vendors and crafters have jumped the gun, setting up booths and grills in the parking lot of That Sperryville Emporium for the past several weekends.
But the true festival begins on Saturday and continues all day Sunday, rain or shine. Sponsored by the Sperryville Business Council, the event draws crafters, cooks, artists and antique dealers, along with activities for the entire family.
From the entrance of the village, at That Sperryville Emporium, to the village’s edges at Country Manor and the Sperryville Antique Market, visitors and local residents can eryoy a pleasant fall day strolling down the historic streets and enjoying festive attractions along the way.
Highlighting the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday is the Sperryville Volunteer Firemens’ Carnival. This is a new addition to the festival, transplanted from its previous June date to the fall, where the department hopes it will provide yet another drawing card for the town’s celebration.
The carnival will actually kick off the weekend on Thursday night, when the rides light up and fill the night with the joyous sounds of laughter.
