To the editor:
For the past six weeks, I have received several pieces of mail from Seventh District Congressman D. French Slaughter (paid for with taxpayers money). In it, he extols his virtues as our representative in Washington. Instead of sending out this literature, why is he not willing to come out and face the people directly and engage in a debate with David Smith, the challenger.
Maybe I have the answers as to why he is hiding up on Capitol Hill (at taxpayers expense).
As a public forum, I would like to hear him answer a few questions.
1) Mr. Slaughters How do you envision a balanced budget, you voted for such an amendment? Are you going to cut Social Security, are you willing to cut aid to education or are you suggesting we default on the interest payment on the national debt (Reagan legacy)? You surely don’t want to cut defense spending since last week you voted to increase spending for “Star Wars” (SDI) and voted against the trimmed down Defense Budget bill? How are you
