Mr. McCarthy said the representatives of C & P reported that they would charge several hundred dollars to make the switchover so the calls would come into the Rappahannock dispatch center and also charge the county $160 per month to rent two additional trunk lines to bring the calls into Washington.

Mr. McCarthy said that when he pointed out that the county is already paying to rent two trunk lines to bring calls to the SherifFs Office, the C & P representatives said the county would still have to rent two more.

Mr. Massie said, “Over the years Centel has gotten a bad rap. I’d like to publicly thank Centel because 911 is free for 675 numbers. I think C & P ought to do something about the people with 937 numbers who are not able to call county offices toll free.”
