October! Blue skies and nature’s full palette of vivid colors welcome National Woolly Bear Month to Hagerstown and Washington County, MD.

Weather watch: With shorter days, we can expect a month of changeable weather with above average temperatures and average precipitation. Our forecaster calls for fair, warmer conditions 1-3 changing to showers, stormy 4-6. The next few days, 7-9 should be fair and mild as will be 11-13 with cold rain on the 10th. The remainder of the month calls for rain, windy 14, then fair, cool 15-20. Look for periods of rain, though mild, 21-25, changing to cooler, scattered showers 26-28. Though 29 will be partly cloudy and mild there’ll be warm showers for Halloween.

Tornado watch: Little activity this month, but be alert 4-7 from Texas to Mid-Atlantic states, and 15-17 in the extreme Southeast.
