One cost Dr. Gangel hoped to be able to pick up this year is for the underground storage tank. He showed the supervisors an article on enclosing such a tank in an underground concrete vault. He said this gives an “advantage of both worlds,” since such a facility is treated as above ground for insurance against leaks but as below ground for rating for fire risks.
He said he would not know until later in the budget year whether it will be possible to build such a vault for the tank this year because the budget is already under pressure because of increases in fuel costs and because of unanticipated demands for special education.
They also voted to increase the authorization for this year’s budget by $113,656. This allows the school system to spend funds that have been received that were not in the budget.
