Survivors include his wife, Pearl P. Groves of Amissville; two daughters, Lesley McKinley and Vivian Vontress, both of Silver Spring, Md.; one son, Raymond Groves Jr. of Silver Spring, Md.; two step-sons, Thomas Phillips of Annandale and John Phillips of Washington, D.C.; five sisters, Margaret Dean of Culpeper, Katherine Gaines and Mary Groves, both of Washington, D.C., Kate Pendleton of Washington and Nellie King of Amissville; five brothers, Thomas Groves of Middletown, Pa., James and William Groves, both of Washington, D.C., Walter Groves of Jeffersonton and Julian Groves of Washington; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Forrest Freeman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Joynes Funeral Home in Warrenton was in charge of the arrangements.
