Budget balance?
We must agree with our Congressional candidates — both incumbent Republican D. French Slaughter Jr. and Democratic challenger David Smith, that the budget compromise reached last weekend by the Administration and Congressional negotiators leaves a lot to be desired.
First, there’s the question of whether tax increases are a good idea — never mind justified — as the nation reels on the brink of a recession. And the tax increases proposed are regressive. They will hit people on the bottom end of the income scale much harder than those more affluent.
