She was bom July 30, 1908 in Culpeper County to the late Edward Spillman and Maude Riley Kemper.
She was a resident of Amissville most of her life and the wife of the late Roy Carter.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the Amissville United Methodist Church and as a young woman she cleaned the church and started fires in the wood stoves for Sunday school and church services.
She is survived by one son, James Bobbie Carter Sr. of Amissville; one daughter, Catherine C. Paul of Amissville; five grandchildren, Denise C. Settle, James B. Carter Jr., Teresa C. Smoot and Mark A. Paul, all of Amissville and Michael J. Paul of Culpeper; six great-grandchildren, Robby Settle, Jason, Cody, and Kelsey Paul, Ashlyn Paul and Brandan Smoot.
Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at the Amissville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peter Weems and the Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amissville United Methodist Church or Amissville Rescue Squad.
Moser Funeral Home of Warrenton was in charge of the arrangements.
