Dr. Gangel also brought to the supervisors meeting representatives from Lord Fairfax Community College to answer questions the supervisors had raised about why some Rappahannock students are apparently having trouble getting credits from LFCC accepted when they try to transfer them to four-year schools.

Dean of Instruction David Perkins told the supervisors that the problem arose because four-year schools were formerly only willing to accept credits if they matched up one-for-one with courses they also offered. Four of Virginia’s four-year colleges and universities are now willing to accept all of a student’s coursework as meeting the general education requirements for the first two years if they receive an associate degree.

James Madison University was the first four-year-school to adopt such a policy, he said. George Mason University, Longwood College and Old Dominion University have also agreed to treat transfer students from community colleges the same way.

When the supervisors moved to the part of their agenda that offers the public to bring in their concerns Ray Garland, pastor of the Assembly of God church in Sperryville, said that the church is looking for a new location.

The supervisors urged Rev. Garland to meet with representatives of the highway department to see if he could meet requirements for the entrance.

In other action Monday, the Board of Supervisors:

• voted to publish a list of delinquent taxpayers.

• learned that construction on the first section of the four-lane of U.S. 211 from just outside Washington to Route 622 is scheduled to be advertised for bids in January of 1991 and the section from 622 to outside Sperryville is scheduled to be advertised in March 1991.

• rezoned property behind Settles’ Garage in Flint Hill from village residential to village commercial.
