WASHINGTON, D.C. — Many residents of areas subject to hurricanes often overlook an important part of being prepared: adequate property insurance.
Officials of the Federal Insurance Administration point out that while most homeowners’ insurance policies provide coverage for damage from wind, they do not cover the serious damage caused by flooding that usually accompanies hurricanes. According to FIA, residents of both coastal areas and inland communities should consider their need for flood insurance protection, especially now that the 1990 hurricane season is underway.
