A senior tradition has once more been fulfilled at RCHS. Thirty-three seniors and five chaperones spent three nights and four days last week skiing at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, Pa.
After long months of fundraising events, which included selling refreshments at Homecoming and selling about 3,600 candysticks and 7,800 candybars, the date arrived. Each person had paid the $241 fee and packed their bags in anticipation. The seniors were to leave at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, and everyone was excited.
That is, until the snow fell. Because of the bad weather conditions in Pennsylvania on Wednesday night, the trip was put off until Thursday. The seniors were furious and muttered how ironic it was for a skiing trip to be postponed because of snow.
But, Thursday dawned clear and snow-free. The seniors and their chaperones were en route by approximately 7:30 a.m. that morning. The chartered bus chugged along for about four hours, arrving at Seven Springs around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday night’s lost lodging had been exchanged for another ski lift ticket good on Sunday. Departure time would be later than originally planned, and the Andrew Carnegie Museum stop was scrapped.
Four chalets awaited the seniors, with at least one chaperone in each chalet at all times. Chaperones were vice principal David Smith, secretary Kelly Settle, teacher Vicki Eastham, guidance counselor Joyce GoodEwing, and school board member Bryant Lee.
