Construction on the first part of the four-laning project of U.S. 211 should begin about June 1, Virginia Department of Transportation resident engineer Robert Moore said.
Mr. Moore said he had scheduled a meeting for contractors for March that had to be cancelled because clean up work on contaminated soil at the former location of B and B Service Center is not completed.
Mr. Moore said the delay was caused enitrely by the problem with the soil, not by lack of funding.
“We have to satisfy State Water Control Board requirements,” he said. Mr. Moore expects this work to be completed this month.
He said he expected the meeting to be rescheduled for April and bids to be submitted by the end of April.
