town attorney Franklin B. Reynolds Jr. ask the Virginia Department of Transportation to post 25 mph speed limit signs on Blue Ridge Avenue at the town limits.
Mrs. Parrish said other roads leading into town are clearly marked at the town limits. “We have four houses right there with small children,” she said.
Speeding has been a problem coming into town from Harris Hollow, making a sign needed, she said.
She also asked Mr. Reynolds to question VDOT about a problem with illegal parking on Piedmont Avenue.
Mrs. Parrish suggested the town ban the sale of alcohol by the fire department on the Fourth of July, but Washington Fire Chief Roger Roach said after the meeting that the department stopped selling beer at the Fourth of July a few years ago. Chief Roach said the fire company stopped selling beer at functions altogether after a problem with fighting during a “street dance.”
At the meeting Mr. Morehouse announced the appointments of three people to the Capital Improvements Committee: Mr. Fisher, Diane Bruce and Edward Barton.
The committee will develop a five-year plan for the town.
An item that had been on the agenda for the meeting, adoption of a joint resolution with the county on the town-county boundary, will be acted on in April.
