Throughout these years there were also book fairs, book review contests, Christmas parties, story hours, and film series for the children. Several times Maggi Rogers entertained with her puppets, as did “Puppets by Pizzazz.”
There were art exhibits oL House Tour Weekends and other times. Shows included Charlie Tompkins’ photographs and the Wyeth collection of a friend of the library.
The library has offered seminars on novels, short stories, plays, and poetry; knitting, and Ikebana, all taught by local residents.
The Rappahannock Players’ famous first hit “HMS Pinafore” was sponsored by the library.
A bus trip to see the film “Amadeus” was arranged.
Recently there have been humanities programs on novels and poetry, sometimes accompanied by films or videos, as was the popular series “Modern American Poets, their Voices and Visions.” The last was made possible by a grant from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities and by the much-appreciated cooperation of the local high schools.
