Emmanuel Church and Literacy Volunteers of Fauquier County will host an English as a Second Language Tutor Training at Piedmont Parish Hall at Emmanuel Church, Delaplane, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.
The workshop will instruct in several techniques of teaching conversational English and basic read ing. The training is based on bran new ESL material from Literac Volunteers of America and will bt led by Barbara Greco of Warren County LVA and Sandi Wheeler of Literacy Volunteers of Fauquier County.
Training has been offered to 10 surrounding counties. Past experience with English as a Second Language is helpful but not required. Throughout the workshop, several active students and tutors will tell of their learning and teaching experiences.
There is an $11 charge for materials. Once trained, a volunteer is matched with an adult or young adult who wishes to learn or improve English speaking and reading skills.
