At the new shelter, animals are kept on average for about a month.
The shelter is expanding services: in the next month Mrs. Clark anticipates getting approval to vaccinate and worm the animals the shelter has been adopting out. Rabies clinics are being held every four months.
Mrs. Clark also encouraged county residents who purchase large quantities of pet food to contact her. The shelter is able to purchase bulk quantities of cat, dog, rabbit and bird food at a discount twice a month.
Dealing with stray animals all day, said Mrs. Clark, “we really emphasize the need to spay and neuter your pets. Any animals we adopt out we make the new owners sign a contract. Of the $25 adoption fee, $15 is refunded when they show us proof the animal has been spayed or neutered.” .
Finally, starting next week the lost and found pet registry will run in the classified section of the Rappahannock News. The paper will run a box with shelter information as editorial content, however.
The following animals have been picked up by Animal Warden Ray Pullen and are being held at the Rappahannock Animal Shelter in Amissville.
