President Tanya Richey stepped down Monday night at the regular monthly meeting of the Middle Street Cooperative Art gallery, passing the leadership position to Castleton sculptress and vice-president Maggi Morris.
“I’m real proud of the job we have done in the last year,” Mrs. Richey said of her position, adding, “I had a strong executive board and now is a good time to turn things over to Maggi.”
Mrs. Morris’ position of vice-president and president-elect made her the obvious choice to replace Mrs. Richey.
Mrs. Richey was elected president in June 1990 and has held the position for the last eight months. Prior to her president standing, Mrs. Richey was vice-president for the gallery. She has been a member of the cooperative for two years.
“I am just getting busier and busier,” she said of her reason for stepping down. Mrs. Richey is director of Windflower Fine Art Gallery in Washington, where her work is exhibited. From the Clopton House gallery she conducts art classes on Thursday nights.
Mrs. Richey also exhibts in Germany and several local shows, annually. At present she is preparing for a show in Arizona.
Originally from Northern Virginia, Mrs. Richey has traveled to various spots around the globe studying and painting. She lives with her husband and daughter in Amissville.
