Check the refrigerator, freezer and pantry for other needed items before shopping.

Developing shopping savvy:

Get to know the markets where you shop regularly and be aware of the special services and conveniences they offer, then follow these shopping tips:

Use weekly ads to help plan menus around seasonal foods and featured beef items.

Make out your shopping list by food categories and according to the layout of the store so you can quickly check and refer to it for easier shopping.

Take advantage of the convenience beef products at your market, such as thin-cut steaks, smaller roasts, beef strips for stir-frying or microwaving and individually packaged steaks and beef patties. If these cuts are not available at the meat counter, you can ask the meat retailer for them.

When you get home from the store, put your groceries away as soon as possible, especially perishables. If you are freezing meat, wrap and store in portions you will use at one time. For example, shape ground beef into patties. Wrap and freeze small steaks and patties individually for quick cooking from the frozen state.
