Kids visit sheep farm
Spring Mountain School celebrated the first day of Spring, March 20, with a sunny visit to Over Jordan Farm. Owner Linda Dietel escorted the combined kindergarten and nursery classes with faculty members Bethany Craig and Paige Noel through the farm.
The children petted sheep, held three-day-old lambs, and weighed themselves on the sheep scale.
The field trip was part of the curriculum intended to end winter and herald spring. Teacher Paige Noel has been washing and carding raw wool with both the kindergarten and nursery classes.
Last week Janet Kerig visited the kindergarten and, with her help, the children “felted” the wool — that is, made the wool into felt which they used to create colorful balls and pictures. After Easter, the children will begin weaving with woolen yam and pieces of wool.
In existence since 1987, Spring Moutain School now has a kindergarten and a nursery class.
