Monday evening’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors will include a joint public hearing with the town of Washington on the Solid Waste Management Plan.
This plan calls for the county to add $7,484 to the upcoming county budget for its share of the costs of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District and for recycling services.
The plan was prepared for the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission. PD-9 contracted with Dewberry and Davis to prepare a plan for Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties and the towns in them. The town of Culpeper was also included in the plan, but Culpeper County was not.
County Administrator John McCarthy said the county and town will be able to amend the plan, but must adopt it or write their own by July 1.
One potential benefit to the county will be in recycling rather than burning brush and construction debris. The plan calls for PD 9 to purchase a “tub grinder” to shred wood waste to be used as mulch. The tub grinder could be moved from landfill to landfill within the Plan
