School class of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons) in Front Royal decided such a local hero deserved a living memorial.

The girls received the help of their teachers and donated services of Judy Woodsworth, Front Royal Garden Club president.

Children’s Organization president Lisa Sessions, who painted along with the girls, said: “We encourage our children to be aware of their community ties and find ways to give back and make them better. Chaplain Willis died as he lived: loving others. We all need such heroes and it is wonderful to acknowledge and remember him.”

Those present for the painting project last weekend were: Jessie Harrison, Katherine Pierce, Jenny German, Susie Peachey, Rachel Glaettli, Julie Hamilton, Laura Yates, and teachers Rosalie Lysaght and Rosemary Yates.
