United Methodist Pastor Peter Weems delivered the invocation, praying that all the games be conducted in an atmosphere of fun and fairness.

A since of real pride and hush came over the crowd as Jon Heddleston sang the National Anthem followed by the release of red, white, and blue balloons as “Old Glory” waved gently in the morning breeze.

Accolades were given to many who helped the dream become a reality. Special recognition was given to Mrs. May Belle “Mickey” Stuart for donation of the property for use by the ball teams. (Unable to attend, Mrs. Stuart will be presented with a videotape of the event.)

Also, special thanks was given to the Ruritan Club for their support. Club president Buddy Samuels expressed his gratitude to so many young people who don’t need drugs but instead are learning good character traits through the spirit of
