In Bull Run District softball and baseball, coming in fourth in the regular season means getting the final tournament slot and a chance at going further in the state playoffs.

The Rappahannock High girls softball team beat district foes Central 5-4 and Manassas Park 6-4 to improve their record to 6-6 overall, 6-4 in the district. Going into Tuesday night’s game against Clarke the Lady Panthers were alone in fourth place behind Page (11-1), Strasburg (9-2) and Clarke (7-3).

In the Central game last Wednesday, Heidi Maeyer hit a double and a single, scoring the winning run in the fifth inning on Marsha Freeman’s RBI single. In a defensive contest the Lady Panthers only collected four hits to Central’s five, but they capitalized when runners were on base, said Coach Renee Leake.

Against Manassas Park Friday, Angela Pullen went 3-for-4 at the plate and had three RBIs. Emma Swatman was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Lady Panthers play Central away on Wednesday and George Mason at home on Friday at 5 p.m.
