The written description says the dividing line between Hampton and Piedmont districts north of U.S. 211 is a surveyed line from the edge of the Shenandoah Park to the Covington River bridge at Rediviva. The highway department map shows the line east of that point.
Registrar Nancy Leake said the people involved were registered in Hampton District, following the description not the map, and the supervisors decided to keep the description and to ask that the map be changed to conform with the written description. That line was not changed by the current redistricting.
Mrs. Leake will not send out notices telling those voters whose voting place has been changed of the change until after the Justice Department has approved the plan, but she will begin the process of indentifying who those voters are.
