The Lady Panthers softball team ended its year with an incredible nine-game winning streak and the psychological advantage of knowing they were the only ones to beat Page, the regular season district champ.
The softball team ended up 12-4 in the Bull Run District, 12-6 overall. Clarke also had a 12-6 record but beat Rappahannock twice to take third.
They finished the season by beating Manassas Park Monday, 8-5.
Earlier in the week Sherron Boddie went 4-for-4 with four RBIs as the softball team beat Stonewall Jackson-Mount Jackson 16-7 Tuesday.
Marsha Freeman was 2-for-3 but was lost for the year with a broken ankle, injured sliding into base.
Pitcher Susan Payne went 2-for4.
All seven runs against Payne were unearned. Stonewall registered five hits and none for extra bases.
The Lady Panthers were only ahead 4-3 in the first inning and it stayed close until they scored eight in the fifth inning.
Friday against the Brentsville Tigers the Lady Panthers continued their winning ways, ahead 17-2 in the fifth inning before the game was ended under the slaughter rule.
They got 15 hits, three by Heidi Maeyer, two by Lori Paratore, two by Payne and two (both doubles) by Angela Pullen.
Brentsville managed six hits.
The Bull Run District Tournament starts Monday, May 20 with the Lady Panthers taking on Page County.
