Rappahannock New* Staff Writer

Betty Wood is looking forward to time she’s needed for 25 years. Soon, the time is all hers.T

She retires from Rappahannock County Public Schools in June. The home economics department won’t be the same without her.

“Life is a very fleeting thing,” she said with a smile. “There are a whole lot of things I want to do now.”

Mrs. Wood started teaching 30 years ago, when Rappahannock County High School was just two years old.

“It was small then,” Mrs. Wood said, with a smile, adding the school was just the “front portion, then. It was just a few of teachers. It’s all gone by so fast. It doesn’t seem like it was 30 years ago that I started teaching.”

Mrs. Wood is a petite woman.
