Hometown heroes corporal “Ritchie” Dodson, USMC and Lance Corporal Hans Heinz Jr. occupied the stage along with other special guests. (Following the ceremony, Mrs. “Micky” Stuart, the 1990 “Citizen of the Year,” warmly embraced Ritchie Dodson and said “It’s hard to believe, but this young man mowed my grass when he was a young boy.”) She joined everyone present in expressing pride in the accomplishments of our heroes.

Colonel Bingham also recognized heroes of another war: Rear Admiral Marocchi, CAPT Harry Smith, and Colonel Knuepfer.

Bunny Kinzer’s singing of the National Anthem rang across the fields. It made us all proud to be Americans.

Appreciation is expressed to others who donated their time and talents to the success of the festival: Rappahannock Electric, Dr. McHargue; nurses Lisa Morrison, Marion Facchina, Dorothy Scott, and Ann Hoffman; Ron Dodson; Roger Bach’s gospel band; Gary Fincham’s country band; Volunteer Fire Department; Methodist, and Baptist churches; Rappahannock Atheltic Association; Wilson’s Pet Farm; Mr. McWhirt; clowns Cari Hardin, Heather Dodson and the Hible sisters, Sarah and Kristy, the many volunteers who assisted with parking, food, table set up, and much more.

1116 Amissville Volunteer Fire Department wishes to express its regret at in advertently omitting the name of Paul Poling from its list of members that was distributed with the fund-raising letter. He is a lifetime member of the Department.

Ron Hughes, manager of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries in Rappahannock County, will present a program on “Snakes of Virginia” to the Amissville 4-H Club at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at Bethel Baptist Church. Parents and the general public are invited to attend.
