It’s a Memorial Day celebration at Ki Theatre.

Stage performances, clowns and mimes and workshop time are part of the multi-talented production offered by Ki Theatre beginning at 8 p.m. May 25 at the Town Hall in Washington.

“This is the last production of the season,” said director Julie Portman.

“We have picked programs that demonstrate our theme of humor and warmth,” she said of the three day event scheduled.

Ms. Portman herself begins the weekend with her production of “Katie Malone.”

The one-act play is a true story written by Ms. Portman about her mother’s life and marriage. It explores the world of a woman who “remains true to herself’ through marriage and motherhood.

“It’s storytelling and acting in a one-woman show,” she said.

“I found my mother’s wedding dress and it brought back all the memories,” she said, explaining her mother passed away last July and in November she began work on the piece.

“It was a great joy to write about my mother,” she said, adding the piece is intertaining to audiences of all ages.

“It depends on where you are in your family,” she said. Ms. Portman brings all the roles to life, playing father, mother, brother and herself as a 4-year-old child.

“I am very familiar with the scenario and through characterization I play each person,” she said.

Enhancing the one act production with music is her husband Paul Reisler.

“He has composed some new music and arranged exisiting work for the piece,” she said. Concluding the night performance is Ted Pugh, director of The Actor’s Ensemble of New York.

Performing with his partner, Fern Sloan, Mr. Pugh brings to the Rappahannock stage, “Mrs. Ripley’s Trip,” a one-act play by Hamlin Garland.
