ESS will
run WSA
for next
6 months

The Water and Sewer Authority voted last Thursday to enter into a six-month contract with Environmental Systems Services of Culpeper to operate the Sperryville sewer plant at $2,800 per month.
ESS has been operating the plant since July 8, when the WSA brought them in to correct violations at the plant noted in reports from the State Water Control Board.
The motion to enter into the cqntract provides that the WSA can withdraw from the contract if state laws require that the WSA advertise for bids for the service.
The contract provides for ESS to have a licensed operator at the plant for four hours a day seven days a week. The WSA has to provide someone else, who does not have to be a licensed operator, to run an additional lab test four hours later each day.
WSA members will be meeting with representatives from the SWCB, County Attorney Peter Luke, County Administrator John McCarthy, and representatives from ESS in attorney Douglas Baumgardner’s office Aug. 19 to discuss fines that the SWCB may order the WSA to pay for violations.
WSA secretary treasurer Jimmy Swindler Jr. noted that the SWCB had requested that the WSA supply a VCR and television as well as a slide projector for the meeting. “I think they want to show the plant in
