In last week’s “News” (bottom of Bl) there is an article on an upcoming presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pinafore.” In paragraph three it mentioned the previous production 12 years ago of that gem in the G & S crown, a production which accomplished four objectives, two intended (hoped for) and two fortuitous: it made a profit for the library; it woke the theater from a 20*year snooze; it was successful enough to justify a third, unexpected performance; and it spawned the Rappahannock Players. The article also gave the single billing in addition to a misspelled name) when in truth there were numerous hardworking contributors to that quite enjoyable run. The cast, both solo performers and chorus, comes first to mind but there were a dozen or more “others” who gave of their time and energy to putting the play on.

Naturally my wife is easily remembered in the matter of clothing the ensemble. The costumes were appropriate and effective and represented the skill of many sewers. There was also lighting to provide and operate, all done with professional skill.

There were props and set building plus enlarging the stage; I had great help there. Finally there were tickets to sell; Mary Jamieson’s indefatigable efforts made the show a financial succes and an extra showing
