Coach Payne, who coached both the Exons and the All-Stars, has been coaching girl’s softball for many years. All of the girls have been playing ball since they were quite young. The 14 members of the all-star team were selected by a popular vote conducted by all the players in the league.
All of the girls are looking forward to playing on the high school team this coming year.
In addition to league funds which financed part of the trip to Protmouth, the team was lucky enough to solict donations from Rappahannock businesses for which they were very grateful.
“The community support we received was terrific,” said Mrs. McNear.
“These girls made a great committment to play on this team,” said Mrs. McNear. ‘They had to go to Culpeper to practice many days out of the week and it demanded a lot of time and hard work.”
